Youth Fencing Day Camp 2024

WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?
 A fencing day camp from 9AM - 12PM for individuals between 8 and 14 years of age.  Designed for first timers without any previous experience as well as intermediate youth fencers!

We teach skills of the Olympic sport of fencing. Attendees will have fun learning the history of the sport, the various weapon styles, and of course...fence with swords!! Fencing is one of the safest sports and students also learn teamwork and leadership skills.

All equipment is provided for the duration of the session, and each camper will make a craft to take home. 

There are 3 different weapons in the modern fencing sport –  Foil, Sabre, and Epee.  RFC's Youth Fencing Day Camp alternates between weeks of Foil and Sabre.

What’s different between foil and sabre?
There are two basic differences:

Foil is a “point” weapon and Saber is a "slashing" weapon and the rules and positions are slightly different. With either weapon, your goal is to make a touch before your opponent does. In Foil, you will need to extend and thrust the tip of the weapon into the valid target area, while in Saber, you can thrust and cut using the blade edge to score.

DATES AND SESSIONS:
FOIL: Week 1: July 15 through 19
SABRE: Week 2: July 22 through 26  NO SESSION
FOIL: Week 3: July 29 through August 2
SABRE: Week 4: August 5 through 9
FOIL: Week 5: August 12 through 16
SABRE: Week 6: August 19 through 23


Pricing: Each week is $300. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due at the time of sign up to reserve your spot, and deducted from the final camp price once we have confirmed your sessions. Early bird registrations made before April 15th receive 10% off the weekly rate!

The Rochester Fencing Club is committed to a safe and friendly environment for fencers, coaches and visitors. All equipment which has been washed and sanitized, will be provided for each athlete to use for the entire duration of their camp.
