An NCD Training and Growth Event for Local Church Elders
We invite your elder board to join other elders from NCD churches for training and growth. This event is designed to help local church elders come together to grow, consider the biblical teaching on their role, and have open discussion about how to serve their congregations.

9:00 Welcome and Introduction
9:45 Elder Discipleship This session will focus on how elders shepherd the congregation that God has entrusted to their care. What does it mean to shepherd? What should our attitude and posture be? How can we come alongside people to help them grow? When might we need to practice church discipline? The key passage for this session is 1 Peter 5:1-5
11:00 Shepherding your Congregation This session will focus on the need for elders to be growing in Christ. Topics will include personal discipleship habits, accountability, and setting healthy boundaries. Key texts for this session include Hebrews 13:7, Acts 20:28, 1 Timothy 4:16, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, and Titus 1:5-9.
12:00 Lunch together
12:30 Healthy Congregational Oversight This session will touch on various responsibilities elders have as they practice congregational oversight. Topics will include guarding church doctrine and its preaching ministry, providing oversight for staff and finances, thinking through bylaws and governance, pursuing unity and team health. Key texts include Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:1-5, Hebrews 13:17
1:45 Prayer and the Word in the LIfe and Ministry of Elders This session will focus on the need for elders to focus their ministry on God’s word and prayer. The key text for this section is Acts 6:4. How should elders pray? What does it mean to focus on God’s word as elders? Why is it important for elders to be men of prayer and the word?
